Yuletide recs!

I did a scan through both Yuletide and Madness and these are the fics that stood out to me right away.

These were the fics I got and, yes, they deserve reccing.

Conversations Not About Cars - Initial D - This was my main Yuletide fic. I cannot possibly explain just how perfect it is. It’s a gen piece, but much like canon is has those moments where the characters *connect* and it is just so, so, so fabulous. This is a fic written by someone who must love exactly the same things about the canon and the characters that I do, but they’re able to actually express it. I have already read this thing three times and will probably read it at least one more time before the day is through. When I find out who wrote this, I’ll honetly tempted to offer to bake cookies to send to them because I am so overwhelmed by this thing. I was brought to tears by its beauty. (That said… it has spoilers beyond the current anime, so…)

Settling Scores - This was a Yuletide treat that I got and it is so much fun! I had prompted for a fic in which Kagami tries to get back at Kuroko for kind of casually taunting him with Nigou, but the chosen way here… is kind of amazing. XD

Now, on to the other things I liked:

Goldenfist - Archer - If any series needed a Fuck or Die scenario, it was Archer. Some moments of it really capture the characterization.

Equus malus - Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog - Two people wrote Bad Horse's origin story this year, and to me? This is the better of them. There's such a pervasive aura of calculated malice that is somehow so fun. XD

Living the Legend - Gallagher Girls series - I am reccing this more on the merits of the writing than the actual idea just because I don't see Macey letting the world tell her 'no', but it is certainly a potential future for Macey. Gallagher Girls is a series I wish had come out when I was a pre-teen, but I'm not ashamed to say I love this series as an adult.

In Which Sophie and Howl Get Married - Howl's Moving Castle - This is a fun little piece about Sophie making her own wedding dress with her sisters' help.

Shipwrecked - Twelfth Night - The tagline version of this plot "Twelfth Night: Viola/Olivia genderqueer in space" doesn't do it justice at all. It's a really poignant AU and the genderqueer aspect is handled very well.

Down to the Bone - Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge - This is based on the drama which I haven't seen, but I've read the manga and this fits fine with that canon. YNSH took a little while to really grow on me, but I stuck with it for the very things that this fic has in droves. This is kind of a perfect future fic. ^_^

There are a good handful of things that I didn't rec because they would lead directly to people figuring out which fics I wrote.

Now, the Madness!

First up, the two adorable Kuroko no Basuke gifts that someone gave to me:

Childhood memories - Kuroko will be there with bells on.

The simple things - Fluffy friendshippy things almost always strike me the right way.

And now the others I read and liked:

Inappropriate Baked Goods - Arrow - Arrow is a pretty new thing for everyone since it's still in the middle of its first season, but I'm pretty enamored of it... just not quite enough to fic it myself. This manages to be the kind of thing I would love to write, so it is definitely the kind of thing I like to read.

All Things Considered - Daria - The idea of Daria doing podcasts hit me just the right way.

Basically: Run! - Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - This is a perfect little moment with Arthur and Ford. Beautifully done.

Still As Sweet - The Incredibles - Violet and the getting of her superhero name.
